Ministry of Culture to organise a week-long celebration for ‘International Museum Day’ across its museums

Free entry for visitors to all the museums under the Ministry of Culture across the country from 16th-20th May 2022
Under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsava, on the occasion of the upcoming International Museum Day (IMD) on 18th May 2022, the Ministry of Culture will organise a week-long celebration across its museums from 16th May – to 20th May 2022. The National Museum (New Delhi), National Gallery of Modern Art (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru), Allahabad Museum (Prayagraj), Indian Museum (Kolkata), Victoria Memorial Hall (Kolkata), Salar Jung Museum (Hyderabad) and Science cities and centres under National Council of Science Museums (in 24 locations across India) are undertaking special initiatives throughout the designated week.

The Ministry of Culture has already announced free entry for visitors to all the museums across the country under the Ministry of Culture during the week of 16th020th May 2022.

Taking a cue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Mann Ki Baat address on 24th April where he urged listeners to visit museums with their friends and make #MuseumMemories, a slew of special programs as well as widened outreach strategies to attract a diverse and inclusive audience have been carefully curated by the national museums.
Special exhibitions, projection mapping shows, extended museum hours, free admission for the week, music/dance performances including flash-mob and targeted activities for children such as clay modelling, miniature painting, and origami workshops have been organized in an attempt to offer a holistic museum experience to all age groups. Limited edition museum merchandise, as well as photo booths in all museums, are also being launched as part of the commemoration.

In line with the Ministry of Culture’s renewed mandate of ‘Reimagining Museums in India,’ a Global Summit was held in February this year, and they are set to announce the launch of ‘Museum’ – a hackathon with museum-centric problem statements; and a ‘Museums in India’ mobile app containing a digital repository of their collections. A webinar titled ‘Museology as a Profession: Challenges and prospects will also be held on the occasion of IMD 2022, by the National Museum Institute. Additionally, a quiz is being hosted in collaboration with MyGov to popularize these repositories of our collective heritage. Please follow #MuseumsReimagined #MuseumMemories #AmritMahotsav for more details.

NITI Aayog Launches the National Data and Analytics Platform (NDAP)

About NITI Aayog, launched the National Data & Analytics Platform (NDAP) for open public use. The platform aims to democratize access to public government data by making data accessible, interoperable, interactive, and available on a user-friendly platform. It hosts foundational datasets from various government agencies, presents them coherently, and provides tools for analytics and visualization. This public launch follows a beta release of the platform in August 2021 that had provided access to a limited number of users for testing and feedback.

NDAP follows a use-case based approach to ensure that the datasets hosted on the platform are tailored to the needs of data users from government, academia, journalism, civil society, and the private sector. All datasets are standardized to a common schema, which makes it easy to merge datasets and do cross-sectoral analysis.

The platform was launched by Mr Suman Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog, in the presence of Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO Niti Aayog; Dr Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India; and other senior officials from NITI Aayog, various ministries and state governments, academics and researchers.

Mr Suman Bery moderated a panel discussion around the topic, “Interoperability: leveraging the power of systems, datasets, and agencies working together.” Mr Bery said “The main value that NDAP adds is making key foundational datasets interoperable with each other. This will enable easy cross-sectoral analysis and democratize the use of Indian government data.” The panel comprised experts from government, academia, and civil society. Winners of a research competition held by NDAP were given certificates and mementos at the event.

Mr Amitabh Kant said, “The rise of data and digital technologies are rapidly transforming economies and societies, with enormous implications for governments’ daily operations. NDAP is a critical milestone – which aims to aid India’s progress by promoting data-driven disclosure, decision making and ensuring availability of data connecting till the last mile, is an example to how the power of data can be leveraged.”

Senior Adviser Ms Anna Roy, who has led this initiative, said, “India has a rich data ecosystem which generates data that is invaluable for decision making and research. NDAP is adding to these efforts to further strengthen the data ecosystem. We will continue to add and update the data on the platform to ensure that it remains useful.”

The dark hole in the center of our galaxy has been studied for many years and has finally been captured in an image.
“It’s the dawn of a new era of black hole research,” it said.
Imagine trying to see a donut while you’re on the surface of the moon – it will be hard to spot. However, this is how small a black hole may look from Earth if we were able to see them.
