DOWNLOAD `KNOW YOUR CANDIDATE’ APP TO CHECK BACKGROUND & CRIMINAL RECORD OF CONTESTING CANDIDATES- DC APPEALS VOTERS

Jalandhar, January 28 (News Hunt)- Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today called upon voters to download `Know Your Candidate’ app in huge numbers to check the particulars and criminal antecedents of candidates contesting in the forthcoming elections so as to be able to know detailed information about candidates.

The DC said that the app has been developed to provide wide publicity and greater awareness regarding criminal antecedents of contesting candidates to ensure transparent election. This app can be downloaded from Google play store and Apple App store and the link is also available on the Commission’s website. He further mentioned that all scanned documents submitted by candidates during the nomination process are uploaded on this mobile application for voters’ awareness.

While participating in the review meeting chaired by Deputy Election Commissioner at Election Commission of India Nitesh Vyas, the DC accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Jaspreet Singh, apprised the commission about the arrangements being made by the district administration to conduct free, fair and transparent polls in Jalandhar. He stated that all poll related preparedness has been finalized by the administration and the district is all set for the elections. He informed the ECI about measures adopted by the police and civil administration to curb the money and muscle power in the elections with massive seizures of illicit liquor and preventive action against troublemakers.

Giving more details on poll preparedness, the DC said that as many as 59 model polling stations, 9 women managed polling stations and one PWD managed polling station to be set up in the district besides webcasting facilities at polling stations. Sector Officers, Special Executive Magistrates and Sector Magistrates have been deployed for all 1975 polling stations, he said adding that as many as 18131 employees tasked with conduct of elections have received complete vaccination besides 5340 precautionary doses have also been administered. He also apprised the ECI that a total of 293 and 353 complaints have been disposed of and received at C-vigil and 1950 call center respectively. Likewise, about 15 FIRs have been lodged in Jalandhar district for MCC violation besides seizure of 1.63 liters of illicit liquor, he said. He also stated that elaborate arrangements were being made to facilitate PWD voters, Senior Citizens (80+) with services like ballot paper voting, pick and drop facilities, assistance at polling stations, etc.
