Thousands participate in Yoga Utsav to mark 50 days countdown to the International Day of Yoga at Sivasagar, Assam
Yoga performed at seven iconic heritage places simultaneously
The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, with active support from the Government of Assam, organized a Yoga Utsav at the iconic holy site of Shivdol at Sivasagar in Assam to mark the 50 days countdown to International Day of Yoga, 2022 today. The event organised by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the Ministry of Ayush, saw the participation of more than 10,000 yoga enthusiasts from all the northeastern states of India.
The Utsav was simultaneously held at seven historic locations in the Sivasagar district in Assam which included Thora Dol, Rudrasagar Dol, Ronghar, Tolatol Ghar, and Kareng Ghar & Joydol, all places of historic importance, within the periphery of Sivasagar town. The event was aimed at creating awareness about the various dimensions of Yoga and its ability to enrich human lives. The Utsav theme is ‘Make Yoga a part of Your Life’ was attended by dignitaries, students and government officials.
The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma; the Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal; the MoS for Ayush and WCD Dr Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Gas and Labour, Rameshwar Teli along with the State Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta, the Health Minister of Sikkim, Dr M K Sharma, the Health Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Alo Libang, the Health Minister of Nagaland, S. Pangnyu Phom attended the event.
Apart from the ministers, the Members of Parliament from Assam, Nagaland, Arunachal Senior officials from Central and all northeastern states including eminent dignitaries & experts, Yoga enthusiasts and students participated in this Utsav. The demonstration of the Common Yoga Protocol was done by a team of MDNIY led by its Director, Dr Ishwar V. Basavaradi in the early morning today at the holy premises at Sivadol in Shivsagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal said that the idea behind the Utsav is to encourage people to take up Yoga, a wonderful gift of our thousands of years of civilization so that they can enrich their quality of life. He further said that as thousands of people from all the northeastern states came together at this pious land in the beautiful town of Sivasagar to perform yoga, it reinforces our sustained effort to put the iconic heritage sites of Assam on the tourism map of the world through this event today. The Minister said that in this event we tried to highlight the importance of Yoga in enriching our health & mind as well as celebrating our socio-cultural heritage by highlighting beautiful Ahom era architecture.
Sivasagar has been selected for the Yoga Utsav because the Prime Minister of India had unveiled a plan to develop five Archaeological sites viz. Rakhigari (Haryana), Hastinapur (Uttar Pradesh), Sivasagar (Assam), Dholavira (Gujarat) and Adichanallur (Tamil Nadu)) into “iconic” sites across India. The historical significance of Sivasagar is paramount as it was the epicentre of the Ahom kingdom which ruled between the 13th and 19th century CE.
The eighth edition of International Day of Yoga (IDY2022) is being promoted through multiple programmes by the Ministry to take the message of Yoga across the world to a wider audience. A curtain raiser event to mark the 100 days countdown to IDY2022 was celebrated on 13th March while a 75-day countdown event was organized at the Red Fort in Delhi. The 25 days countdown to IDY2022 will be celebrated in Hyderabad. The International Day of Yoga is celebrated across the world on June 21 every year. This year, the Yoga Utsav is being celebrated across 75 heritage sites of historical importance as part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in order to give a fillip to the brand India.
The signing of a joint declaration with Germany on agroecology and sustainable management of natural resources
The virtual meeting between Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Germany’s Minister Ms Svenja Schulze
Initiatives have been taken between India and Germany on agroecology and sustainable management of natural resources. In this regard, the Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Narendra Singh Tomar and Germany’s Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development Ms Svenja Schulze signed the declaration in a virtual meeting today.
Through this, joint research, knowledge sharing and innovation will be promoted between academic institutions of both countries and practitioners including farmers. The transfer of technology and scientific knowledge will be promoted by encouraging exchanges, partnerships and research collaboration with the private sector. Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development intends to provide up to 300 million euros by the year 2025 for financial and technical cooperation for projects under this initiative.
Germany will provide coordinated support for this lighthouse initiative, supporting the agroecological transformation process in India through the Technical Cooperation Project. For the changing agenda of agroecology, the two countries envisage the establishment of a joint research centre supported by financial cooperation to develop and share cutting edge knowledge with practitioners from India, Germany and other countries, while facilitating value-added technology and scientific transfer.
To oversee the implementation, a working group will be set up with the concerned Ministries, namely, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and NITI Aayog.

देश की प्रगति में श्रमिकों का अहम योगदान : अविनाश राय खन्ना
होशियारपुर 1 मई (न्यूज़ हंट)- भाजपा हिमाचल प्रदेश प्रभारी व पंजाब के पूर्व राज्यसभा सांसद अविनाश राय खन्ना ने कहा कि देश की प्रगति में श्रमिकों का हम योगदान है। खन्ना ने कहा कि किसी भी निर्माण कार्य की शुरुआत से लेकर उसके पूर्ण होने तक श्रमिकों का योगदान होता है। इसी प्रकार कोई भी कार्य श्रमिकों के बिना पूरा नहीं हो सकता। खन्ना ने कहा की श्रमिक हमारे देश की रीड की हड्डी हैं जिनके बिना हम प्रगति की कल्पना भी नहीं कर सकते। इस मौके पर खन्ना ने तपती धूप में सडक पर काम कर रहे श्रमिकों को ठंडा पानी व चने भेंट कर उनका सम्मान किया। श्री खन्ना ने श्रमिकों से अपील की कि वे इसी प्रकार तन मन से अपने फर्ज को पूरा कर देश को प्रगति की नई ऊंचाइयों की ओर लेकर जाएं। इस मौके पर दुर्गेश जंडी, रिंकू, अशोक बाठ, सुभाष बाठ तथा दिपांकर आदि भी मौजूद थे।
Integrated Election Complex with state-of-art infrastructure inaugurated by CEC Shri Sushil Chandra
State-level IEC to store EVMs/VVPATs for all 11 districts of Delhi
Chief Election Commissioner of India, Shri Sushil Chandra along with Election Commissioner Shri Anup Chandra Pandey today inaugurated the Integrated Election Complex at Bakhtawarpur, Delhi for warehousing and management of EVMs & VVPATs of NCT of Delhi. The Integrated Election Complex has been built by the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi and Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited (DTTDC) the executing agency for the project.
At the inaugural function, CEC Shri Sushil Chandra while complimenting CEO Delhi and his team for planning and executing the project methodically, said that this state-of-the-art Integrated Election Complex is a milestone for the Election Commission of India. He said that the Complex, which is conceptualised with all features and administrative safety protocols for storage, security and movement of EVMs, has elevated the benchmarks for all other State CEOs to emulate.
The first of its kind, the integrated complex is a multi-functional state-of-the-art facility aimed at modernising the warehousing and management of EVMs and VVPATs. The IEC has sufficient storage capacity for EVMs & VVPATs to serve as the State Level Warehouse covering all 11 districts of NCT of Delhi. The Complex has comprehensive facilities for conducting First Level Checking of EVMs & VVPATs as per ECI’s guidelines. The First Level Checking halls can also be used for large meetings and training sessions.
Shri Sushil Chandra during his address stressed that EVMs are the pride of Indian elections. He said EVMs have been used in all elections since 2004 and so far over 350 crore+ voters have reposed their faith and cast their vote through EVMs in 4 General Elections and 37 Assembly Elections. Elaborating further, CEC Sh Chandra said that EVMs are an engineering marvel.
EVMs are non-tamperable and have provided accurate and timely results establishing their credibility since these were first put to use 4 decades back on a pilot basis. He added that the VVPAT audit trail introduced since the 2019 General Elections, has further established the credibility of EVMs with no mismatch being found in the votes cast in EVM and counting of VVPAT slips. He urged the District Election Officers from Delhi to familiarise themselves with all the features and protocols of EVM to ensure effective communication and outreach amongst the public. While interacting with the DEOs, CEC Shri Chandra also emphasised that they should make further concerted efforts and targeted interventions to increase voter turnout.
Election Commissioner Shri Anup Chandra Pandey in his address said that transparency, impartiality and perception are crucial in the election management and thus following Standard Operating Procedures and checklist for systematic storage, maintenance and movement of EVMs are vital to avoid any glitches and ensure uniformity. While congratulating the project team for setting up standards and benchmarks for establishing such an integrated complex, he added that this facility can also be used as a training centre for logistics and inventory management of EVMs/VVPATs for election officials.
Secretary-General, ECI Shri Umesh Sinha while appreciating the coordinated efforts of different agencies and organisations in building this unique facility, said that this Integrated Election Complex will be a landmark for all Chief Electoral Officers while conceptualising the home for EVMs and VVPATs.
Chief Electoral Officer Delhi, Dr Ranbir Singh in his welcome address gave a detailed chronology of the project starting from conceptualisation to completion. A Coffee Table Book and a Documentary film related to voter awareness campaigns organised during 2021-22 by Chief Electoral Officer Delhi were also released by CEC Shri Sushil Chandra during the inaugural event.
Senior Deputy Election Commissioners Sh. Dharmendra Sharma and Sh. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, Deputy Election Commissioner Sh. T Sreekanth, Director General (Media) Ms Sheyphali Sharan, MD DTTDC Ms Swati Sharma and the District Election Officers / DM’s of NCT Delhi were also present on the occasion.
Salient Features of Integrated Election Complex
Envisaged by the Election Commission of India, and built under the aegis of Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, the Integrated Election Complex is a landmark project for the modernisation of EVM & VVPAT storage and management. Spread over an area of 12865 sq. m., it is a towering testimony to our collective belief in democracy. There are EVM vaults on each floor having 1080 specially designed racks. For security and surveillance, there are 80 CCTVs with 2 Control Rooms.
The Integrated Election Complex has a machine storage capacity of over one lakh Ballot Unit/Control Units and nearly 45000 VVPATs, which is sufficient to cater to the needs of all 11 districts of NCT of Delhi. There are 36 specially designed storage vaults that are duly equipped with steel racks for the proper storage of EVMs and VVPATs. Enough vaults have been assigned to different election districts of NCT of Delhi as per their needs.
The IEC is equipped with 3 passenger lifts and 2 cargo lifts apart from a comprehensive ramp facility for complete accessibility and smooth movement of people and machines. The three-storied complex has fully furnished barracks for the security staff. Along with this, the security is well ensured by a two-tiered high-security wall.
The complex is a Green Building with minimum energy demand incorporating environmental features such as natural light and natural ventilation. The building has adopted an eco-friendly approach by installing Solar Panels with a capacity of 200 KWh that are connected to the power grid. Surplus solar power will be sold to the grid.
All the floors are equipped with Automatic Fire fighting and Alarm systems. The complex has a dedicated water harvesting system along with a modern Sewage Treatment Plant to process the wastewater. The complex has been rendered green through extensive horticulture and landscaping services. The aesthetic and educative value of the IEC complex has been enhanced by the display of election-related murals and artwork in the building complex.

Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship visited the exhibition at the SemiconIndia conference and interacted with startups in the electronics manufacturing & semiconductor sector. SemiconIndia Conference, a 3-day conference, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 29th April 2022.
Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar liberally spent time with the tech entrepreneurs to understand their current offerings, their product roadmaps, applications and utilities of their technology and the on-ground impact their cutting-edge innovation is creating. In his interactions, he also urged them to share their thoughts on policy support, fiscal impetus, and other asks from the Government.
The Minister strongly affirmed the potential of Indian Startups to significantly boost the growth of India’s Digital Economy over the decade. Taking to his social media, the Minister tweeted “Semicon startups are truly catalyzing India’s electronics & semiconductor ecosystem. May this tribe increase. I am confident that the next Unicorn will be from here.”

The Startups were elated to meet the Chairman Steering Committee SemiconIndia 2022 & the Union Minister of State who has been a former chip designer in the Silicon Valley, USA, and a successful tech entrepreneur himself. The Startups felt encouraged and inspired by the Minister’s call for them to join the fast-expanding Unicorn Club.
Earlier in the day, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar also met Mr Raja Koduri, Chief Architect and Senior Vice President of Intel’s architecture, graphics and software (IAGS) division who delivered a talk on “From Angstroms to Zetta-scale: Silicon, Systems and Software in India”. The Minister Congratulated Mr Koduri for an excellent talk about the real potential in India in AI, System Design & middleware for Indian Startups. He also expressed optimism about intel partnering with Indian Startups in this area.
