As one of the most famous soccer players in the world, Ronaldo has had a very successful career. He began his professional career with Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and then transferred to Manchester United in 2003. With Manchester United, he won his first FIFA Club World Cup and his first UEFA Champions League title. In 2009, he transferred to Real Madrid where he has since won two more UEFA Champions League titles and four more FIFA Club World Cups. He has also won numerous individual awards, including being named FIFA World Player of the Year three times and winning the Ballon d’Or four times.

Widely considered one of the greatest players of all time, Ronaldo has won five Ballons d’Or and four European Golden Shoes, both of which are records for a European player. He is the first player to win four FIFA World Player of the Year awards, the first player to win three European Golden Shoe awards, and the first player to reach 30 goals in six consecutive La Liga seasons. Ronaldo scored his 600th career goal for club and country on 15 December 2015. With 61 goals in 127 appearances for Portugal, Ronaldo is the country’s all-time top goalscorer and second-most-capped player

Born and raised in Madeira, Ronaldo began his professional career with Sporting CP at age 17. After signing with Manchester United in 2003, he achieved global stardom with his record-breaking transfer fee, performances on the pitch, and hairstyle. By age 23, he had received Ballon d’Or and FIFA World Player of the Year nominations and at age 24 became Portugal’s most expensive footballer when he moved from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a transfer worth €94 million (£80 million). In Spain, he scored an unprecedented 46 goals in La Liga during the 2006–07 season and was integral to Real Madrid’s subsequent victory in the 2007–08 Champions League final.

Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, commonly known as Real Madrid, or simply as Real, is a professional football club based in Madrid, Spain. The club was formed in 1902 as Madrid Football Club and played its first official game in November 1902. Madrid won the 1957–58 European Cup, which was their first international title. How did he become successful?

Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born on February 5, 1985, in Madeira, Portugal to Maria Dolores Spinola dos Santos da Aveiro and José Dinis Aveiro. Ronaldo has an older brother, Hugo, and two older sisters, Elma and Liliana Cátia. His name was inspired by the former US president, Ronald Reagan, whom his father was a big fan of.

Ronaldo began his youth career with Andorinha, where he played for two years before moving to Nacional. In 1997, at just 12 years old, he caught the attention of Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon after scoring 32 goals in a game against São Miguel. Lisbon signed him for their under-14 team where he honed his skills even further. He then burst into the first-team scene and became their top scorer in the 2002-03 season with 23 league goals as they finished third in the league.

His outstanding performances led to a €15 million move to English side Manchester United in 2003. He helped United win the Premier League title in his debut season and also clinched the FA Cup. The following year he won another Premier League title along with the Champions League – becoming the first Portuguese player to do so. He scored a total of 84 goals in 196 appearances for United before moving back to Spain in 2009 to join Real Madrid for a world record transfer fee of €94 million (£80 million).
