A bridge in Gujarat’s Morbi has collapsed, injuring many people.

A bridge on the Machchhu River in Gujarat’s Morbi collapsed Sunday, injuring several people.

It has been reported by the local MLA and state minister that people have been rushed to hospitals after falling into the river and became stranded when a bridge collapsed.

The bridge had only recently re-opened following renovation.

According to local officials, the bridge collapsed because it could not support the weight of the people who were standing on it. It is believed that many tourists, particularly those from out of town, had been coming to see spectacular views of Morbi at Julio Pool for decades.
