ICAT Signs MoU with the NorthCap University for Emerging Technologies
MoU will allow both parties to design courses to enhance skill development in the automotive segment
International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Northcap University (NCU), Gurugram, to enhance the Industry-Academia partnership for conducting joint short-term and mid-term courses and research in the field of EV and related emerging technology area as per Industry Requirements. The MoU was signed by Mrs Pamela Tikku, Officiating Director, ICAT, and Prof Nupur Prakash, Vice-Chancellor, NCU, in the presence of other senior officials from both organizations.
Speaking on the occasion Mrs Pamela Tikku stated that we look forward to a long-term relationship for skill development required for the industry by collaboration in the emerging field of electric mobility and also look forward to the skilling up-gradation of ICAT resources.
In his address, Prof. Nupur Prakash said, “The summation of the expertise of ICAT in the field of automotive technology along with superior content development proficiency of NCU will result in flexible course packages for interested candidates, thus enabling them to be prepared across multiple fields available in the automotive sector in India.”
International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), located in Manesar since 1996, is a division of NATRiP (NAB) Implementation Society (NATIS) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
It is one of the independent Testing Agencies under Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), Government of India for Testing and Certification of Automobiles and their critical safety components.
The NorthCap University (NCU) was established in 1996 in Gurugram. NCU is National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) ‘A’ accredited university. The University is ranked among the top 100 in the Engineering category under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The institute has also been rewarded as the Best Performing University among the Top 30 Universities and Deemed Universities Category in India in the Atal Ranking of Institutions in Innovation Achievement 2021 (ARIIA). The University offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in disciplines such as engineering, management, applied sciences, and law. NCU is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Bar Council of India (BCI). The University is a Member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), UK.
In addition to being a Member of the American Society for Quality (I) Pvt Ltd, NCU is accredited by Accreditation Services for International Colleges (ASIC), UK, in the category of ‘Premier’ Universities, with ‘Commendable’ Grades.

26 elite athletes visit schools across the country
To mark the countrywide celebrations of the National Sports Day, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Singh Thakur and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Nishith Pramanik interacted with athletes and fitness icons.
Speaking at the programme Shri Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is making every effort to popularise sports and nurture sporting talent. Union Minister said that NEP 2020 also envisages sports as a part of the curriculum and lays emphasis on sports-integrated learning as well as adopting fitness as a lifelong attitude. He said that we are in the process to include sports and its various aspects into the school curriculum. We are also rolling out National Credit Framework with due weightage to sports. Award of academic credits for sporting activities will act as a catalyst in popularising sports, he added. He shared that the Education Ministry has sought inputs from the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry that can be included in these books on sports and youth-related subjects.
Adding to this, Shri Thakur said, “The time has come to make India a sports hub and a sports superpower, as envisioned by our PM. The results being shown by our athletes at various international competitions as well as the support that is being extended by the government through its various schemes like Khelo India and TOPS for requirements like equipment, diet, training, and foreign exposure, is only poised to improve. I believe if we work together we can make India the sports superpower that it deserves to be.”

CWG 2022 Gold medalist boxer Nikhat Zareen, CWG 2022 Gold medalist para-TT player Bhavina Patel, ex-wrestler and motivational speaker Sangram Singh and holistic lifestyle and diet expert Luke Coutinoh were also on the panel. Speaking about what it means to be an athlete in present-day India, Nikhat said, “I am supported under the TOPS programme which funds everything that I need in my sports training. Therefore, I do not have to worry about how I will fund my next competition, training or equipment and that helps me focus on my game, which every athlete needs to do to reach the highest level of success. we have that support and it is a great time to be an athlete in India.”
The programme also witnessed the announcement of the launch of the 2nd Fit India School Quiz, which saw massive success in the first edition. The registration of schools for the second edition opens on September 3, 2022, till October 15, 2022. The quiz carries total prize money of Rs 3.25 crores.

It was for the first time this year that the National Sports Day was celebrated across the country by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as a mega sports festival with 26 elite athletes visiting 26 schools across the country, from Jammu to Trivandrum, to create awareness among students on the three important aspects of sports, fitness and balanced diet or Santulit Ahar. The initiative, envisioned by the Honourable Prime Minister, has proved to be a catalyst in motivating students to keep healthy, stay fit and eat right. Indian hockey captain Manpreet Singh, boxer Nikhat Zareen, Judoka Tulika Mann, Long jumper Sreeshankar Murali, CWG Lawn Bowls gold medal winners Lovely Chaubey and her team, were among some of the athletes who visited the schools.
The Sports Authority of India also celebrated this year’s National Sports Day, as part of the FIT INDIA campaign, through pan-India sports events with the theme of Sports as an enabler for an inclusive and fit society. Sporting events are organized for different levels, including both professional as well as recreational events among people of various age groups, and of all walks of life, in over 100 schools and in all SAI National Centers of Excellence across the country. At the SAI headquarters at Jawarharlal Nehru Stadium, more than 500 SAI staff members participated in competitive events like hockey, football, cricket, badminton, athletics and in fun games like tug of war, sack race etc. Ex-elite athletes Yogeshwar Dutt, Akhil Kumar, Zafar Iqbal and CWG medalist Tejaswin Shankar, U-15 Judo cadet world champion Linthoi Chanambam attended the National Sports Day celebrations at JLN Stadium.

Dr Abhilaksh Likhi inaugurates Workshop on “Strengthening of Export Potential of Honey” at VAMNICOM
Dr Abhilaksh Likhi, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare chaired the Workshop on “Strengthening of Export Potential of Honey” today at Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune, Maharashtra organised by the National Bee Board (NBB).
Dr Abhilaksh Likhi launched bee wax products manufactured by FPOs during the workshop. It was also decided to establish a cooperative honey project at VAMNICOM, Pune. Experiences were also shared by honey processors/ exporters and FPOs / Agri start-ups about future strategies for the export promotion of honey.
Dr. Likhi urged that efforts should be made under the National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) involving all the stakeholders i.e. Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) / Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Bee Societies and agencies such as NDDB, NAFED & TRIFED to empower small and marginal beekeeping farmers for remunerative income generation.
Background
At present, about 12,699 Beekeepers and 19.34 lakhs honey bee colonies are registered with National Bee Board and India is producing about 1,33,200 Metric tonnes of Honey (2021-22 2nd advance estimate). India is one of the major honey exporting countries in the World and has exported 74,413 MT of Honey worth Rs. 1221.17 Crores during 2021-22. More than 50% of the honey production in India is exported to other countries. India exports honey to about 83 countries.
The major markets for Indian honey are the USA, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Canada, etc. Mustard honey, eucalyptus honey, lychee honey, sunflower honey, Pongamia honey, multi-flora Himalayan honey, acacia honey and wild flora honey are some of the major varieties of honey exported from India. Total of 102 projects for the assistance of Rs. 133.31 crores sanctioned under the National Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) NBHM to date.
The quality of products exported from India is monitored by the government through the Department of Commerce and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry under the Export Inspection Council of India (EIC) Act. Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry formulated the trade policy for food trade, import, and export. APEDA offers various incentives and financial assistance to the exporters of agricultural food products, including honey.
Under the scheme of “Formation of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations, 100 FPOs of Beekeepers/ Honey Producers are allotted to TRIFED (14 nos.), NAFED (60 nos.) and NDDB (26 nos.) for implementation of activities under NBHM. Thus, out of a total of 105 FPOs allotted to NBB, 77 FPOs of Beekeepers/ Honey Producers have been registered/ formed to date. The Ministry of Agriculture & FW has also developed an online portal i.e.“Madhukranti Portal” to maintain traceability records of honey & other beehive products.

Addressing back-to-back meetings with “Labharthis” (Beneficiaries) and PRIs, DDCs, BDCs and Municipal Council Chairperson and Members at Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh, Dr Jitendra Singh said, each of the pro-poor and public welfare schemes was designed in such a manner so as to reach the neediest or the last man in the last queue, regardless of caste, creed, religion or any vote consideration. He said, this is fully in tune with Deen Dayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Antyodaya, which means the rise of the last person.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, when Modi took over in May 2014, almost half of the country’s population was deprived of facilities like toilets, housing, vaccination, electricity connection and bank accounts. He said, with Sabka Prayas, the Centre has been able to bring many schemes closer to 100% saturation during the last 8 years, there is a new resolve to make India a frontline state in the world in the next 25 years of Amrit Kaal.

Dr Jitendra Singh said the citizen-centric schemes like Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY), PM Aawas Yojna, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Har Ghar Jal, Ujjawala, Sauchalaya, Jan Dhan, Ayushman have reached every such household without any political consideration and other considerations and utmost care was taken to target the needy and disadvantaged sections of society by following the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”. He said, people, are getting the benefits of welfare schemes without any discrimination, unlike in the past, when appeasement policy was rampant. The Minister emphasised that these welfare measures brought crores of people out of the clutches of abject poverty and gave them a life of dignity.
Describing the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and their representatives as the essential messengers of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Welfare Schemes, Union Minister said that Panches, Sarpanches as well as the elected representatives in Block and District Councils have an opportunity to play a distinct role in reaching out to the last man in the last queue, at the grassroots level, and ensuring for providing him with the benefit of each of the pro-poor and welfare schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the last 8 years.

Addressing the PRI representatives and local elected representatives, Dr Jitendra Singh said that they are the true messengers of Modi’s New India and asked them to ensure that not a single deserving citizen is left out from getting the benefit of schemes like PM Awas Yojna, Ujjwala, PM Garib Kalyan Yojna, Ayushman, PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, Swachhata and Clean drinking water. He told them to work in close coordination with the district administration to ensure that no one should be left behind in every scheme for the welfare of the poor.
Dr Jitendra Singh also asked elected representatives to work hard in the field to create awareness among the masses about the developmental works of the Modi Government during the last eight years and how it changed the national mood from despair to optimism. The Minister also emphasised that not a single charge of corruption was levelled against the Modi Government to date and Modi has succeeded in giving a transparent and delivery-oriented administration.
