HIGH TIME TO PROMOTE SPORTS, PARGAT CALLS SOCIAL, RELIGIOUS ORGANISATIONS & NRIs

NOVEMBER 26 Jalandhar (NEWS HUNT)- Punjab Sports and Education Minister Pargat Singh on Friday took a round of Rurka Kalan and Jandiala Manjki villages to further boost sports activities by distributing sports kits besides announcing Rs. 10 lakh grant for Youth Football Club and another grant of Rs. 1 lakh.

The Minister gave a clarion call to NRIs, social and religious organisations to come forward for playing a crucial role in strengthening efforts for sports, which would certainly channelize the energy of youngsters thus ensuring positive results at national and international level. The Minister also honoured Jatin Malhan, who became the third Indian to win Laureus IWC Drawing Competition. He also handed over sports kits to children at YFC.

While interacting with the budding sports persons and office bearers of YFC, the Sports Minister Pargat Singh said that various significant steps were being taken by the Punjab Government to further expansion of sports activities at grassroots level especially in villages. He mentioned that the role played by the YFC in promoting sports was highly commendable, which should also be followed by others in their respective areas so as to get maximum youngsters involved in different games. He said that youngsters should be provided sports opportunities so that they could compete at national and international level to bring laurels for the state and country.

Accompanied by the YFC President Gurmangal Dass, the Minister also visited the multipurpose sports stadium in Rurka Kalan being developed by the YFC at a cost of Rs. 15 crore.

Cabinet Minister Pargat Singh also distributed sports kits among budding students during an event organized by Doaba Young Sports Club. He announced a grant of Rs. One lakh for the club and urged the members to intensify their sports activities in the village. He interacted with the children as well as their coaches and directed them to work earnestly at grass route level to impart best of the training among youngsters.

Meanwhile, the minister further announced a grant of Rs. 71 lakh for gram Panchayat Jandiala Manjhaki for development works adding that the said funds to be released within a week. He stated that there was no paucity of funds for rural development.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion Member Zila Parishad Baba Rajinder Singh Johal, Ravinder Singh Johal, Sarpanch Makhan Pallan, Chairman Market Committee Bhinda Samra, President DYS Club Jaswinder Singh, Dinesh Lakhhanpal, Manoj Kochar, Gurpreet Singh, Ranjit Samra, Coaches namely Ladi, Hardeep, Babbu & Pooja.
